A Tale of “X” Gamers – Chaos Space Marines 002.

Hello there.

No, we haven’t given up on the “A Tale of X Gamers” project. Far from that, but, unfortunately real life does have a meddlesome habit of getting on the way of our hobby related projects from time to time doesn’t it? Someone far wiser than me has said that “Life is what happens while we’re busy making plans” and that has proven accurate once more.

I have once more been betrayed by my computer. This time it was my own fault as I managed to get it infected with some pretty virulent internet virus which began to shut down and erase everything I had on my hard drives. I did get it serviced by a specialized technician but when it came back there were faulty files and a bunch of shenanigans which prompted me to take it back to the store and have it formatted once more. And there it remains to this day.

If that hadn’t been enough I’ve also had some professional and personal issues that have been eating away a lot of my time every day, hobby time included, so that has been in the way of me sitting down to write here on the blog.

I did find me some time today so I rushed here in order to let you know what’s going on. You might have noticed we were short on a few texts during November right? Well it so transpired that I’m not the only hobbyist struggling with everyday life issues and Caco, Caio, and Ultramarcos haven’t delivered their texts to me yet, but, as soon as I get them on my hands I’ll translate and have them here on The Painting Frog for you guys.

“Enough with the excuses, what have you been doing with your army for the ToXG project?” I hear you guys asking. Well, not much, I must admit but I did manage to do a bit.

While we’re still admitting stuff I must say I haven’t finished reading the 6^th Edition Rulebook, but I’ll try to remedy that over the course of next month as we’re already playing some games under the new rules and it’s pretty confusing thus far as we’re probably mixing some old and new rules at this stage, as I believe some of you out there might be doing it too.

I did get my Chaos Space Marines Codex in the mail and that was a book I read from front to back over the course of a couple of nights. I’m genuinely impressed at how good this new Codex looks with hardcover and full coloured pages and I definitely like the new direction GW is taking with its books. Rules wise I believe CSMs are still packing a punch. Mind you I have never been an excellent strategist and over the years had CSMs as a regular opponent as a good friend, Luis “Malek” Carlos, has been fielding them ever since we started together on the hobby years ago and it’s always been a struggle to beat him and his CSM army.

Under their newly released codex the traitorous CSMs seem as perilous and vicious as ever but with the addition of a few new infernal toys they look even more menacing to my eyes. I’m particularly impressed by the Forgefiend and Helldrake kits, and of course their stats, and am definitely looking forward to adding a few of them to my 2000 point list.

I didn’t stick to reading though. As I’ve mentioned on my previous article I’m fielding my CSM army under the colors of the Word Bearers Legion and so I thought a couple of cultist units would make a fitting addition to the list given the established fluff of that Legion.

The new 6^th Edition starter box, Dark Vengeance, made then a pretty good start for my force (in fact if you’re thinking of building a CSM or a Dark Angels army, the new Starter set is also a pretty good choice for you) so I went ahead and bought two of them which would allow me to field four 10 man strong cultist units or, with the addition of two extra cultists, two 20 man strong units.

I have already assembled, based and primed all 40 cultists and am left now with the task of painting them all before doing anything else for the army, specially because, after them, I’ll get to play with nicer aspects of the army like its leader and a couple of proper Word Bearers CSMs.

Não, não se preocupe, o projeto do “Conto de X Jogadores / A Tale of X Gamers” não foi engavetado não, mas, infelizmente, a vida real tem o péssimo hábito de atrapalhar nossos planos para o hobby. Já dizia alguém mais sapiente que “A vida é o que acontece enquanto a gente se ocupa em fazer planos”.

Fato é que uma vez mais fui traído pelo meu hardware e acabei perdendo meu PC para um vírus particularmente agressivo. Na sequência levei o computador para um técnico formatar e reinstalar os programas, mas o serviço não foi feito da forma especificada e o computador voltou para a loja para novos ajustes. Nessa fiquei sem ter como editar as imagens e produzir os textos para alimentar o blog. Não bastasse o computador me deixando na mão alguns problemas profissionais e de ordem pessoal tem me consumido bastante impactando sobremaneira o tempo disponível para o hobby.

Você também deve ter percebido que alguns participantes não tiveram textos postados certo? Bom, não sou o único por aqui com contratempos e o Caco, o Caio e o Ultramarcos não me entregaram o material referente ao segundo mês deles no projeto. Tão logo eu os receba, vou editá-los e colocar aqui no The Painting Frog.

“Mas e ai? O que você fez pro seu army ao longo do último mês?” Bom, eu realmente tentei me inteirar um pouco mais das regras da 6ª. Edição, porém, a falta de tempo realmente está me matando e devo admitir ainda não ter conseguido ler todas as regras dessa nova edição, mas, de outro lado, o meu Codex Chaos Space Marines chegou e nesse eu dei uma boa lida de cabo a rabo e devo admitir estar satisfeito com a escolha de montar um army de Chaos Space Marines (CSMs).

O primeiro aspecto que salta aos olhos com esse Codex é a qualidade do mesmo. Na linha do livro de regras da 6ª. Edição o Codex CSMs é o primeiro Codex do 40K com capa dura e conteúdo completamente colorido (o que já vinha acontecendo com os Army Books do Fantasy) e ricamente ilustrado o livro oferece um banquete visual pra qualquer entusiasta. No que diz respeito às regras, a primeira vista, os CSMs continham sendo os mesmo traidores casca grossa de sempre com a adição de novos instrumentos de guerra infernais ao já devastador acervo que possuíam. O Helldrake e o Forgefiend definitivamente conquistaram minha atenção e vão aparecer em minha lista de 2000 pontos que começa a tomar forma.

Pra não dizer que fiquei só na leitura comecei a montar alguns modelos da caixa “Dark Vengeance”, o starter set da nova edição que retrata o conflito entre Space Marines do capítulo dos Dark Angels e os CSMs renegados do “Crimson Slaughter”. Gostei bastante dos cultistas da nova caixa e como acho que essa é uma unidade que casa bem com o fluff da Legião que escolhi, os Word Bearers, decidi empregá-los no army. A ideia é usar duas unidades com 20 cultistas cada que, de acordo com a situação, podem ser divididas em 4 unidades com 10 cultistas cada (na verdade se você anda ensaiando começar no hobby e pretende fazê-lo com um exército de Chaos Space Marines ou de Dark Angels essa caixa é uma excelente pedida pra você começar o seu army).

Já montei todos os cultistas que vou precisar utilizando o conteúdo de duas caixas básicas da Dark Vengeance e outros dois cultistas adicionais, texturizei as bases e apliquei o primer, faltando agora a parte mais demorada que é pintar todas as 40 miniaturas.
