Curso de Pintura com Fernando Ruiz – Vídeo no Youtube.

Yes, I know… let me save some face and skip the apologies for not updating recently and get straight into today’s post, which for you English speaking Reader is, unfortunately, another apology.

 

So let me get that out of the way: I apologize in advance for making today’s video content only available in the languages it was recorded in (Portuguese and Spanish) but the video was not only very long (meaning a lot of extra time to work the subtitles in it) but also because my grasp on the Spanish language isn’t great, certainly not nearly good enough for me to translate accurately what was being said by our “maestro”.

Having said that, I believe that if you speak a little Spanish this video might prove useful.

 

Back in 2012 I attended a miniature painting course held in Porto Alegre. The course was organized a fellow hobbyist, Fabricio Fay from the “Los Figureros” blog, and would be taught by one of the masters of figure painting, Fernando Ruiz Ceano (from FeR Miniatures).

 

I did write a review about the weekend course back then where I mentioned having some video material and the desire to make it available as soon as possible. WOOOOSH! (Imagine the sound of rushing wind while reading this)Fast forward almost 3 years and the files were still lying around in my back-up HDs.

 

I did struggle for a long time pondering which would be the best way to make this content available to the miniature painting community. I quickly realized the quality of the recording left a lot to be desired, however it stems from the fact this footage was never meant to be turned into a video tutorial.

 

As I have mentioned on my original review, after Fernando’s first explanation he took paintbrush to miniature showcasing what he had just explained, however there were too many of us elbowing each other for a glimpse of what was going on and it was immediatelly clear to me that wouldn’t be the best way for us to see what was going on. Having taken my video camera to the course (and all of its cabling) I suggested we could use it to stream footage to a projector so we could all sit and watch the teacher paint without standing in each other’s way. Not wanting to waste a good opportunity I did press the “rec” button to record that footage at the same time it was projected.

 

So while the footage shows an obvious lack of preoccupation with lighting, focus and framing, the content is still great and begged to be shared, and that fact kept bugging me over the years.

 

Having just changed my computer (there is indeed an excuse for the lack of updates) retiring the 8 year old “Railander the Immortal PC”, I came across the original footage and decided it was time to work on them (better late than never right?).

 

So if you do speak Spanish and, or, Portuguese I hope you enjoy it. If not, there is no need to fret because I came across a great piece of news on FeR Miniatures’ website saying a partnership with Painting Buddha has come to fruition and they’re soon going to release some video courses showcasing Fernando Ruiz’s unique painting method (there’s more about the upcoming Painting Buddha videos here and here).

Permita-me pular as escusas pela recente falta de atualizações e partir direto para o motivo do artigo de hoje. Vai valer a pena, eu prometo!

 

Em abril de 2012 participei do curso de pintura de miniaturas organizado pelo Fabricio Fay (do blog Los Figureros), realizado em Porto Alegre e ministrado por um os papas da pintura de miniaturas: Fernando Ruiz Ceano.

 

Escrevi na época aqui no blog uma resenha sobre o curso, resenha onde eu mencionava ter material em vídeo do final de semana e prometia disponibilizá-lo aqui no blog para meus leitores. “WOOOOOOOOOSH!” (Imaginar som de vento na sua cabeça enquanto lê isso) passaram-se quase três anos e até agora nada desse material por aqui. Bom, isso está prestes a mudar.

 

A verdade é que pensei muito sobre como apresentaria esse conteúdo aqui no blog, principalmente porquê a qualidade do vídeo passa longe do ideal. É preciso manter em mente que esse material foi gravado sem grandes expectativas e mais, sem qualquer intenção de formatá-lo em um tutorial ou vídeo curso de pintura.

 

Como expliquei em minha resenha original após a explicação de uma técnica, ou dos passos que adotaria na pintura, o “Maestro” levava o pincel à miniatura, ilustrando na prática seus ensinamentos, contudo, logo na primeira vez em que fez isso ficou bastante evidente que não iria dar certo em virtude do número de participantes, todos se acotovelando para tentar enxergar o que estava sendo feito na peça.

 

Já que estava com minha câmera de vídeo a tiracolo (e a montanha de cabos que a acompanha) sugeri que a empregássemos para projetar no telão os momentos que o professor sentava para explicar na prática as técnicas propostas. Funcionou super bem, e reconhecendo a oportunidade para não desperdiçar aquele conteúdo eu apertei o botão “rec” da câmera para gravar tudo.

 

É por esse motivo que o vídeo não tem as condições ideais de iluminação, foco e enquadramento, contudo, seu conteúdo continua sendo fantástico com dicas imprescindíveis para o pintor de miniaturas iniciante ou veterano.

 

Sendo assim, ao encontrar os arquivos em um de meus HDs de back-up por ocasião da aposentadoria de “Ráilander o Pecê Imortau” (sim, eu tenho uma desculpa para a falta de atualizações) após oito anos de serviço fiel, achei que estava na hora de montar esse conteúdo em um vídeo para compartilhar com vocês aqui no blog.

 

Acabei optando por colocar todo o conteúdo em um único vídeo, respeitando a integridade do material, justamente para não correr o risco de cortar na edição algum pedaço importante, ou editar sem querer a fala do professor (que está em espanhol, mas não é impossível de entender). Espero que gostem do registro e que o material contribua para o progresso no hobby dos leitores aqui do blog.

 

Cabe lembrar que se você ficou interessado em aprender mais sobre o método único de pintura do Fernando Ruiz, muito em breve a Painting Buddha vai colocar à venda um bundle com DVD de instruções/tutorial de pintura e miniatura do Fernando Ruiz.
