Preparations for the “Rumble in the Jungle II – A Missão” continue very much like the series of famous Hollywood movies: Fast and furious.

 

In between all the miriad things involved in running a tournament I also took the time to work on some new scenery pieces to dress our tables for the event. If you’re following our Facebook page or our Instagram account you’ve probably seen a sneak peek of what we’ve been working on, and because of the photos we’ve published on the aforementioned social media outlets, we have received a few requests to share how we went about weathering some of the scenery pieces we’ve been working on.

I’ve recently done so with the “A Tale of X Gamers” articles, and also with the Warmachine starter box review.

 

Today’s post here is another guest article, this time authored by one of the good friends I’ve made in this hobby, even if we’ve only met in person once. He’s the guy who ultimately made it possible for me to get into the wargaming hobby, and especially into Warhammer 40.000: Joao Marcelo, or JM as he’s often called.

This is the article everyone could see coming from a mile away, but it ended up taking me more than a year to write this. It seems I’m perfecting the art of taking a while to write articles here on the blog.

 

Joking aside I do have a gestating period when it comes to writing articles like this. While some are born in the spur of the moment and seem to write themselves in a flash, others take their time inside my head, and this apparently is one of the latter.

Este é o artigo que todo mundo sabia que eu teria que publicar aqui, mas que levou mais de um ano para nascer. É parece que eu estou me aperfeiçoando cada vez mais na arte de me enrolar para publicar novos artigos aqui no blog.

 

Acontece que cada artigo aqui no blog passa por um período de gestação, alguns são concebidos e nascem muito rápido, outros parecem estar sendo gestados por um elefante e esse foi o caso do artigo final da série “Visiting Britain’s Lead Belt”.

Yes, I know… let me save some face and skip the apologies for not updating recently and get straight into today’s post, which for you English speaking Reader is, unfortunately, another apology.

 

So let me get that out of the way: I apologize in advance for making today’s video content only available in the languages it was recorded in (Portuguese and Spanish) but the video was not only very long (meaning a lot of extra time to work the subtitles in it) but also because my grasp on the Spanish language isn’t great, certainly not nearly good enough for me to translate accurately what was being said by our “maestro”.

We’re here with my last article for the “A tale of X Gamers” series created by the “The Painting Frog” blog.

 

We get now to the end of this journey which has been unfolding for more than a year, during which I collected and painted these figures for the Warhammer 40.000 game. On this last step of the road I have completed the painting process of 36 Termagaunts which I needed in order to properly field the Tervigon without making use of proxies.

I will often mention in articles here on the blog and on conversations about the hobby that miniature painting is a skill to be learnt and practiced like any other ability.

 

It should come as no surprise that the internet is today one of the largest repositories of information about pretty much any subject the human mind might be interested in, and miniature painting wouldn’t be the exception to that rule. There’s online forums devoted to the subject, written tutorials published on blogs, video ones uploaded to Youtube, so it is only a matter of sitting down in front of the computer screen and do some research before finding a way to teach yourself that new painting technique.

 

But what should one do if the internet is down and the painting muse has been ringing those bells inside your head? Call me old fashioned but I’m a huge sucker for books. There is some intrinsic form of magic about handling tomes of knowledge, and a very special kind of magic when the book is about miniatures.
