Continuing our sequence of “Road to Mordheim” articles today’s article focuses on the creatures I knew I’d have in the Warband ever since I decided to have a Vampire Counts Warband, and as the title of this article implies, no I’m not talking about vampires.

 

If you’ve read my first article in this series you know by now my Warband focuses on a Strigoi vampire, sent to Mordheim at the behest of a more powerful “master” for some reason we still don’t know.

 

In the Warhammer Fantasy background Strigoi vampires are bestial creatures, little more than ravening beasts, often called “Ghoul Kings” because of their association with these famous fantasy creatures.

Road to Mordheim – Zombies!

 

 

The wooden planks on the bottom of the horse drawn cart creaked, complaining about the heavy weight set upon them. “… and eight, nine, ten” the small man finished counting the recently dug up corpses as they were piled up unceremoniously atop the vehicle.

 

He paid each of the grave robbers a silver piece for their work and their silence and hopped at the cart’s seat, tapped the big man holding the reins and signaled forward. Without making a sound the hulking brute whipped the horses with the reins urging them forward, which the animals promptly did.

 

It was past the middle of the night, the witching hour some folks called it, and they had miles to go before the end of their journey. The cart’s bottom had been covered in straws so they’d soak the putrefying ichors and layers of “stink me not” and other fragrant flowers has been intermingled with the corpses to mask their rotting smell. These were the freshest the small man was able to find, he had even arranged for a few of them to be made into corpses to begin with, as the master had required fresh corpses for the reanimation process. These would have to last a while as the road to the City of the Damned was a long winding one.

Ele se movia determinada e silenciosamente em direção ao velho pórtico engastado na colina. As velhas hastes de metal do qual eram feitas o portão haviam há muito sido corroídas pela ação do tempo, esfacelando-se com a ferrugem e tornando-o sem serventia, motivo pelo qual o portão jazia agora semiaberto, testemunha silenciosa e impotente das idas e vindas da criatura que habitava os túneis mais além, dos quais um dia fora guardião.

 

Os túneis fantasmagóricos sob o velho forte eram evitados por todos, e mesmo aqueles a seu serviço evitavam transitar por ali, pois, ainda que não soubessem a exata natureza da criatura que vivia aqui, eles, os serviçais, sempre sentiram que os túneis eram o domínio de algo maligno, algo que predava tanto homens quanto outras criaturas da escuridão.

 

Qualquer outra pessoa provavelmente se perderia no labirinto de passagens que recortavam a colina sob a qual se assentava há séculos o velho forte de propriedade de sua família. Os aldeões da região especulavam que as passagens e túneis se estenderiam até as bordas de suas terras, enquanto outros atestavam de forma veemente que uma pessoa poderia ir de um lado ao outro das Colinas Uivantes sem jamais ver a luz do dia empregando os túneis. Ele sabia que as passagens não iam tão longe. Tendo caminhado ele mesmo incontáveis vezes por cada um dos túneis ao longo dos últimos séculos, ele conhecia cada centímetro de cada tune, afinal de contas Ele era o mestre aqui.

He moved silently and purposefully towards the gated entrance on the hill. The old metal rods having long been corroded by the action of time, prevented the gate from doing its service and so it laid ajar.

 

The eerie tunnels beneath the old fort were shunned by all,  for even if those under his service didn’t know what laired here they had always felt the tunnels were the abode of something evil. Something which preyed on men and creature alike.

 

Others would probably get lost in that maze which crisscrossed the hill the fort laid upon, reaching, some said, the very borders of his domains. Others believed you could cross from one end of the Howling Hills to the other without ever seeing the light of day. He knew they didn’t stretch that far, having scoured the very same tunnels for centuries, he knew every inch of every tunnel. He was the master here after all.

A word from the warp!

Salve leitor!

Faz um tempo não é? Hehehehe …. manter um blog sempre parece uma idéia de simples execução mas eu posso garantir que não é, principalmente no que diz respeito a manter um ritmo de atualizações que mantenham o interesse do leitor.

Falar bobagem pra ter um post diário é um subterfúgio que desde o inicio decidi não usar, assim, se não tenho nada de bom pra falar acabo ficando quieto, mas isso não quer dizer necessariamente que eu não esteja produzindo, na verdade é BEM o contrário.

Nos últimos meses restabeleci contato com um cara que sempre considerei um amigo (coisas de empatia), mas com quem acabei perdendo contato por um tempo pelas vicissitudes do mundo moderno… No fim das contas temos conversado muito, principalmente sobre pintura de miniaturas e todo esse papo tem me inspirado a encarar os pincéis com mais seriedade e com o objetivo principal de melhorar minha produção não só no que diz respeito ao ritmo mas também na qualidade.

Some-se ai o “Spoon of Gork” que rolou em São Paulo no último final de semana (dias 18 e 19 de julho) e meu esforço concentrado para terminar um projeto que vinha morando na minha gaveta a quase um ano e o blog acabou ficando meio esquecido… De novo.

A idéia hoje é dar mesmo uma satisfação e avisar que estou preparando atualizações não só aqui para o “The Painting Frog” mas também para um novo projeto que vai, ao menos em meus planos, movimentar o cenário do hobby no Brasil.

Hey there.

It’s been a while right? Well keeping a blog up and running with frequent upgrades seem to be a more complicated task than it seems at first. The idea seems simple enough, to have a spot on the web where you can write your ideas and share them with the world at large.
Turns out real life and pretty much everything else tends to get in the way and then the blog suffers. I’m not a pro blogger in the sense that I don’t make a living out of the blog in any way. It started as a way of showcasing my miniatures and sharing the pictures of whatever I paint with friends who live far from where I live so, right from the start I decided not to post random stuff just to keep the blog running as I feel that if we have nothing interesting to say we should say nothing at all.

So for the last couple of weeks I didn’t really have anything worth mentioning to put here but that doesn’t mean I have been idle. Far from it. Over the last couple of months I got back in touch with someone I’ve always considered a friend, and who’s growing into one very good friend, but with whom I had lost contact for a while. We’ve been talking a lot and tend to talk a lot about miniature painting which has in turn spurred me into painting even more. I’m aiming at improving not only my miniature turnout but also the overall quality of my paintjobs.

Am I succeeding? I’ll let the pictures for the next couple of updates talk for themselves. I only dropped by to let you guys (if there’s any of you still out there) know there might be the odd couple of updates on the days to come.

Wargaming no RPGCON!

 

Hello there.

 Another year has come and gone and by this time the role playing game community down here in Brazil should be all hyped up about the 17^th  EIRPG (International Role Playing Game Encounter).

 You might remember if you’ve been an usual reader that we reported here last year about Games-Workshop making its debut in Brazil on the 16^th EIRPG (if not check it out here) so there was a lot of expectation in the wargaming community whether or not we’d have another tournament in the EIRPG this year.

 The news that there would be no EIRPG came as a bomb amongst role players and wargamers alike as after 16 editions the company which organized the encounter, Devir, pressed by a multitude of reasons announced they wouldn’t be promoting the event this year.

 A while ago rumors started circulating about an alternative encounter, the RPGCON, being organized by a group of role players which didn’t want the traditional encounter to go by unnoticed this year, and again the local wargaming community started wondering if our favourite miniature games would be present there as well.

 We just got news that Games-Workshop will be once more present at a national event, this time through a new sales representative known as “Tru Sales” and with the support of Hobby Depot, which will host a sales stand and also a gaming stand.

 This time tough there will be no tournament and the gaming area will be home to gaming demonstrations and informal games between players. That choice is certainly understandable as the focus will be on showcasing the games to a new audience and doesn’t go against GW’s declared policy for our country (which we reported on last year as well).

 The big news is that this year we’ll also get to have a look at Warmachine and Hordes, produced by Privateer Press, which will also be showcased at the event.

 So if you feel like checking it out the RPGCON will be held at São Paulo/SP in Brazil on the 4^th and 5^th of July. For more detailed information like pricing and how to get there please check the event’s website  or drop us a line. We’ll do our best to assist you in getting there.

Como anunciamos na época a Games-Workshop fez sua estréia em terras tupiniquins no 16º EIRPG (se você não conferium confira aqui a resenha daquele evento) e o sucesso do stand montado pela representante nacional da empresa, Hobby Depot, parecia garantir a presença dos jogos de miniatura da GW no evento desse ano.

 Não preciso dizer o quão desanimadora foi a noticia de que o 17º EIRPG não aconteceria em 2009. Vários foram os fatores que levaram a DEVIR, principal realizadora do evento, a cancelar o já tradicional encontro deixando desolados não só o seu tradicional público de jogadores de RPG como também os wargamers nacionais que aguardavam o repeteco do encontro do ano passado.

 Eis que surgiram noticias de um “encontro alternativo”, o RPGCON, realizado por um grupo de obstinados role players que não quiseram ver a tradicional data de encontro passar em branco e com essa noticia a expectativa se veríamos ou não um torneio

 Tivemos hoje a confirmação de que a RPGCON contará sim com a presença da Games-Workshop, desta feita representada pela “Tru Sales” com o apoio da Hobby Depot, em dois stands, um dedicado às vendas e outro com área para demonstrações dos jogos de estratégia da companhia e amistosos bem como workshops de pintura.

 Segundo o release oficial das atividades para o evento teremos desta feita tão somente jogos de demonstração e amistosos (ou “desafios” como mencionado no release) ao invés de um “torneio oficial” promovido pela GW. Privilegiar-se-iam assim os potenciais novos jogadores e a demonstração dos jogos da companhia para um público potencial o que é compreensível do ponto de vista comercial bem como coaduna com a política da empresa para o nosso mercado, delineada pelo representante GW no 16º EIRPG e que já havíamos apontado em nossa resenha anterior, no sentido de dedicar, ao menos por ora, maior atenção à captação de novos jogadores ao invés de atentar ao mercado já estabelecido. Fica a esperança de vermos um dia por aqui um grande evento nos moldes daqueles organizados pela Games-Workshop nos EUA e Europa.

 Como forma de incentivar a participação da comunidade nos jogos amistosos realizados stand de jogos e pintura a “Tru Sales” oferecerá vales compra no montante de R$ 15,00 (quinze reais) para cada dia do evento (assim, se você comparecer nos dois dias vai fatrar 30 berimbaus para comprar ainda mais miniaturas) válidos para compras no stand do RPGCON assim como um desconto de 10% (dez por cento) em compras subseqüentes (3 compras).

 A grande novidade fica por conta da presença de dois novos jogos de estratégia, Warmachine e Hordes, publicados pela Privateer Press (e que já resenhamos por aqui como mostram os links) que também são vendidos por aqui pela “Tru Sales”.

 Interessado? A RPGCON acontecerá nos dias 4 e 5 de julho no Colégio Notre Dame em São Paulo/SP. Maiores informações podem ser encontradas no site do evento.

Miniaturas do EIRPG – Warhammer (GOLD)!

Guardei o melhor pro final!

 

Como dizia outro dia o 40K é mesmo o meu favorito “gaming wise” mas tenho um “soft spot” em relação às miniaturas de fantasy talvez porque tenha jogado RPGs com temática medieval por muito tempo em minha adolescência usando justamente as miniaturas de Warhammer para representar os personagens dos jogadores e os monstros por eles enfrentados.

 

Foi assim que a miniatura que pintei pra categoria Warhammer do torneio realizado no EIRPG entrou na minha coleção. Anos atrás em uma de minhas viagens adquiri a miniatura desse lorde anão, o Slayer King of Karak Kadrim Ungrim IronFist, tencionando usá-la em partidas de RPG, desde então ele passou anos em uma de minhas caixas de miniaturas até que tive a feliz idéia de prestigiar o evento com uma miniatura clássica.

 

A feliz idéia me rendeu o ouro na categoria.

The last of the models I was left to show here was the one which won the gold the Slayer King of Karak Kadrim Ungrim IronFist bought years ago on a trip to the UK and which had been ever since living on a dark miniatures box in my closet.

 

I decided to take a classic miniature to compete in the Warhammer category which turned out to be a great idea in the end don’t you think?

 

Pretty happy with the way this turned out. Left me eager to paint me a few more fantasy models sometime soon.

As miniaturas do EIRPG (Breve)!

 

Hello there.

 

If you’ve been reading this for a while you’ve surely read my impressions on the EIRPG (international role playing game encounter) on which Games-Workshop made it’s debut in Brazil (if not please check it here).

 

As I said then I was able to take part in the painting competition held there and was happy enough to win me a couple silvers and a gold. It’s been a while since then but I’ve finally found the time to snap some pictures of the models I’ve entered in the competition. No I’ll not show them here today as I still have to upload them but keep your eyes peeled here as they’re bound to show up in a day or two (there’s a couple of pictures in which they appear on the article I’ve linked elsewhere so do make sure to check it now if you may).

 

Not to leave you faithful reader empty handed, or without an “eye candy” if you may, I leave you today with a link to a video which shows a bit of the afore mentioned event (if you wait a little bit you’ll get to see the buzz around the GW stand and a few of the locals having a go at the tournament – it’s in Portuguese mind you).

Já faz um tempo que estou devendo por aqui as fotos das miniaturas com as quais participei no torneio de pintura realizado no EIRPG (encontro internacional de RPG) realizado em São Paulo em julho de 2008. EIRPG? Concurso de pintura? Se você perdeu a nossa resenha do evento não deixe de conferi-la aqui.

 

Pois bem, depois de meses aproveitei o dia de hoje para tirar algumas fotos das miniaturas, porém elas ainda não darão o ar da graça por aqui nessa atualização já que pra variar não descarreguei as fotos ainda (mas é possivel ver algumas delas nas fotos que ilustram o artigo sobre o EIRPG então confira de novo mesmo que você já tenha lido).

 

Pra remediar o furo vou deixar o link de um vídeo com imagens do evento: “Veja como foi o 16º. EIRPG em São Paulo”.
