Olá Leitor.

 

Este é o artigo que eu demorei DEMAIS pra escrever. Ele me assombrava rotineiramente e já perdi as contas de quantas vezes me sentei em frente ao computador para escrevê-lo, abandonando-o no meio do processo ou desistindo de escrevê-lo enquanto organizava minhas idéias para ele. Acho que agora vai.

 

Se você acompanha o blog vai se lembrar que em 2014 eu postei aqui um artigo recomendando aos meus leitores que participassem no financiamento coletivo do livro FIGOPEDIA, o primeiro volume de uma coleção de livros sobre o hobby de pintura de miniaturas escrito por Jérémie Bonamant Teboul.

This is the article I took way too long to write. It often haunted me and I’ve lost count of how many times I sat down to write it and left without finishing it, or gave up in the middle to organize my ideas. I think this time I’ll publish it.

 

If you follow the blog regularly you’ll probably remember that in 2014 I wrote an article recommending that my readers should pledge for the crowdfunding campaign of the FIGOPEDIA book, the first volume of a collection of books about the hobby of miniature painting written by Jérémie Bonamant Teboul.

Shadows of Brimstone – Board game review.

 

Sitting at the saloon, the sheriff of the small town known as “New Dawn” kept an eye on the whisky glass on the table while holding in his right hand the old Peacemaker. He had acquired the habit of releasing the drum, rolling it with his thumb and pulling it back inside with a twist of the hand and holstering the gun, all in a quick fluid movement. He’d do that over and over again while still keeping an eye on the cup of whisky.

 

He had managed to kick off the drinking habit years earlier, before New Dawn but after the episode that went down in history as the “Red Hook Massacre”, but he still enjoyed having a full glass on the table, like an old friend with whom you lose intimacy, but still quite can’t get away from. His thoughts, whatever they were, were interrupted by shouting coming from the street.

Sentado no saloon o xerife da pequena cidade de “New Dawn” contemplava o copo de uísque sobre a mesa enquanto segurava em sua mão direita o velho Peacemaker. Ele havia adquirido o hábito de liberar o tambor e girá-lo com o polegar para então com um movimento rápido recolhê-lo e reinserir a arma em seu coldre, fazendo e refazendo o movimento enquanto olhava para o copo de uísque.

 

Ele conseguira se desvencilhar do hábito da bebida anos antes, antes de “New Dawn” mas depois do episódio que ficou conhecido como “O Massacre de Red Hook”, mas gostava de ter o copo cheio ali sobre a mesa, como um velho amigo com o qual se perde a intimidade mas de quem não se consegue afastar completamente. Seus pensamentos, quaisquer que fossem, foram interrompidos por gritos que vinham da rua.

Olá Leitor!

 

Depois do relatório de batalha (Battle Report) publicado aqui no blog no mês passado recebi algumas mensagens de leitores e amigos curiosos sobre a mesa em que jogamos a partida. Como essa pode ser uma dúvida compartilhada por alguns de vocês, resolvi aproveitar a oportunidade para fazer uma resenha aqui no blog dos gaming mats (“tapete de jogo” em uma tradução livre) produzidos pela GAMEMAT.EU.

 

Leitores do blog já sabem a importância que dou para uma mesa bem montada com belos cenários e o motivo não poderia ser mais simples: A meu ver, uma bela mesa adiciona muito à imersão no jogo e à narrativa da partida, tornando os jogos mais interessantes.

After the battle report published here last month I got a few messages from readers and curious friends asking about the table where we played that game. As that might be something you might be interested in as well I thought it would be a nice idea to write a review here on the blog about the gaming mats produced by GAMEMAT EU.

 

Returning readers of the blog will probably be aware of the importance of a well dressed table on my games, and that’s for a simple reason, I find that beautiful tables add a lot to the immersion in the game and the narrative of the game making it a lot more interesting.

“Daddy! Can we play the train game?”

Ever since I got deeper into the board gaming hobby (as if I needed any other hobbies. I blame Thiago and Monty for that in case my wife is reading this) I knew this next step was coming, I just didn’t know it would happen so fast: introducing board games to my family.

 

Back in the day me and my wife used to play board games. Yes, we were still stuck with the very same board games that entertained generations before us, but, at that time, that was the pinnacle of gaming as I understood it. We used to play the Brazilian version of “Pictionary” with our friends when we were dating and after getting married “Scrabble” kept us company in many a long night when power outages prevented us from watching TV or sleeping, however, as anything that’s new, the new age of boardgaming here at home belongs to my daughters.

“Paiê! Vamos jogar o jogo do trem?”

 

Olá Leitor!

 

Desde que eu abracei o hobby dos jogos de tabuleiro (board games) com um pouco mais de entusiasmo (eu atribuo a culpa ao Thiago Penteado, ao Leonardo Montagna pro caso da minha esposa um dia ler isso aqui), o inevitável passo seguinte foi apresentar esse universo à minha família, que para minha surpresa e, claro, felicidade, agarrou o novo hobby com unhas e dentes.

 

Eu já jogava jogos de tabuleiro ocasionalmente com minha esposa, o “Imagem e Ação” sendo um firme favorito nos encontros com os amigos durante os anos de namoro, e depois o “Scrabble” sendo um grande parceiro quando faltava luz na época conhecida como “os anos de solidão” pela qual passamos juntos, contudo, a nova era dos boards aqui em casa pertence, como tudo que é novo, às minhas filhas.

I’ve almost let February go without publishing a new article here on the blog, but I WON’T fail miserably on my goal of publishing at least an article a month during 2016 (ok, we’ll see how that goes as the year progresses, but I couldn’t fail right at the beginning, as that would be too shameful).

 

“Wow! That’s super cool! What’s today’s article about?” Well, I’m trying my best to get up to date with the painting and wargaming articles here on the blog, but those take some time, so for the time being we’ll stick with board games as, hobbywise, that’s where I’m seeing more action these days. If you’re not into board gaming I do apologize and promise we’ll eventually get back to other articles, but today I have another board game review to share with you. If you read the article’s title you’ll know by now that today our goal is to survive the end of the world in the game “Survive: Escape from Atlantis”.

Olá Leitor!

 

Eu descuidei e QUASE deixei o mês de fevereiro passar em branco, mas NÃO, eu não vou furar a meta de publicar pelo menos um novo artigo por mês aqui no blog durante 2016 (ok, veremos como isso progride ao longo do ano, mas furar logo no começo ia ser vergonhoso demais).

 

“Ain, que jóia! Sobre o que é o artigo de hoje?” Bom, estou correndo atrás do prejuízo para retomar os artigos sobre pintura e wargames aqui no blog, mas, ao menos por hora, os jogos de tabuleiro são o que mais rola de hobby por aqui, então, pra desespero de alguns leitores, eu tenho uma nova resenha para compartilhar com vocês!
