Today’s article is just to finally, and properly, announce we are having another “Rumble in the Jungle” this year.
“Rumble in the Jungle II – The Mission” is happening on the 23rd and 24th of July, 2016, and will be held in the city of Cuiabá/MT in Brazil, gathering participants in two days of unrestrained gaming and fun.

According to the bets being placed this article should see the light of day sometime around 2017, but in order to contradict the naysayers I’m publishing it today, little over a month after the Rumble in the Jungle was held. I do like to contradict prognostics.

Well, it seems that in light of all the recent articles published here, the word on the street is that I don’t paint miniatures.
With this blog being called “The Painting Frog” there has indeed been a shortage of painting related articles, something I’ll try to remedy today.
One of the things I have been trying whenever I sit down to paint is to step out of my comfort zone, and lately that has meant experimenting with the airbrush. I’ve owned one for a while now and used it with some degree of success in the past to paint a small force of Ultramarines and also on the first of the Saim-Hann Eldar I’ve painted.

As I have mentioned in the first article in this series I’ve taken advantage of a trip to England in January 2014 to visit a few wargame companies based in the city of Nottingham, affectuously known as Britain’s “Lead Belt” a clear reference to the many companies in the wargaming business that make the city their home.

I’ve recently published here on the blog an article about last year’s Bones Miniatures campaign which was successfully run by Reaper Miniatures on Kickstarter.
That article crowned the one year period during which I and a lot of other backers around the globe sat waiting for Reaper Miniatures to fulfill their part of the crowdfunding deal, and man they didn’t disappoint.
My reaction when finally opening that package, quite literally a birthday gift as I opened it a day after my birthday on August 24th was recorded and shared with my readers on that article and on Youtube and according to a friend it was a picture of happiness other hobbyists could relate to.

“If you haven’t been living under a rock” is such a cliché to begin writing an article such as this that I’m quite tempted to avoid using it. I’ll go with “if you haven’t been living in a cave” instead.
So if you Reader haven’t been living in a cave for the past couple of years you’ll have probably heard about Kickstarter by now. If you’re still unaware of it let me shed some light onto this mysterious name: Kickstarter is a crowdfunding tool available to anyone with a nice project and the will to be an entrepreneur, but who lacks the funds to finance said project. As the name implies the “crowd”, normally us in the internet (and probably the people your project is aimed at), will provide the funds if your project is tempting enough (with nice prices, stretch goals and free stuff some would say).

Puxa, parece que faz um século que tento publicar esse post aqui no blog. Eu já havia postado alguns artigos por aqui com vídeos, mas me ative a republicar conteúdo de terceiros que entendi serem pertinentes ao tema do blog (como no caso dos episódios do Vlog ReLOAD) ou no máximo fiz pequenas edições e adicionei legendas em alguns vídeos para aumentar a exposição dos mesmos adequando-os à audiência aqui do blog (caso dos demais vídeos disponíveis em nosso canal).
Fato é que eu vinha pensando em uma maneira de criar conteúdo inédito para o blog usando essa “nova” ferramenta que é o vídeo e fico muito feliz em publicar hoje o primeiro vídeo com conteúdo original do blog “The Painting Frog”.
Como parte da experiência de explorar um novo sistema de wargame e registrar todo o processo aqui no blog, eu decidi gravar um vídeo compartilhando com vocês a experiência de abrir minhas primeiras caixas com miniaturas para o Infinity,um “unboxing”, bastante comum hoje em dia, mas acredito que o primeiro em português (uma caixa de inicio de Yu Jing e outra de Ordens Militares para PanOceania).
O vídeo foi gravado em português, mas conta com legendas em inglês de forma a torná-lo acessível para uma parcela significativa de visitantes aqui do blog. Acho importante frisar que não sou um profissional no universo das miniaturas, e com isso quero dizer que não tenho uma empresa que lide com isso e que não ganho um único centavo com esse hobby. Sou um hobbyista mediano como você e outros tantos frequentadores deste blog compartilhando com você Leitor minhas ideias e impressões (que são tão somente isso, minhas ideias e impressões e de maneira nenhuma são imutáveis ou corretas… sou bem propenso a mudar de ideia. Uma metamorfose ambulante).

Hello there.
One of the added bonuses of going to the “Torneio Polar” in Curitiba was finally getting to visit an old friend, and a mentor in the hobby.
Geraldo has been one of the staples of the wargaming community down in Brazil ever since I started taking part on online discussions and web forums. He kind of always had been there, from the very beginning. If God had created wargaming I’m pretty sure Geraldo was there offering his input from the very start.
I got to meet him in person back in 2005 when I went to a tournament in Rio and he’d been back then just as I imagined him behind the computer screen. It’s not surprising then that he’s affectionately known as “Grandpa Ork” in the Brazilian wargaming community.
He’s always been a prolific painter but he really shines when making custom scenery. There’s nothing he can’t do given time and the right materials. I had owed a visit to his “Ork Bunker” for a while now and when Elson and Otto offered to take us on a tour to his house I could barely contain a satisfied grin.
Elson and Otto tried to prepare us for what we were soon to see, but honestly, nothing can prepare you to enter the “man cave” of a fellow wargamer and hobbyist, and certainly nothing could prepare us for what awaited us.
Luckily for me and you fellow reader, my buddy Streem from the “Reload” videocast (or whatever these youtube shows are called these days) has made an episode featuring our visit.
Without further ado here it is (it’s in Portuguese but any gamer out there can appreciate this footage) – Geraldo is the gentleman wearing glasses:

Fala ai pessoal.
Quem lê o blog está meio careca de saber que participei do “Torneio Polar” realizado pelo clube “Tropas Polares” de Curitiba.O torneio foi tão legal que ainda está rendendo bons posts aqui no blog.
Um bônus da viagem pra Curitiba foi finalmente ter a oportunidade de visitar a casa de uma das figurinhas carimbadas da comunidade brasileira de wargames, O Geraldo. Afetuosamente conhecido por todos como “Vovô Ork” o Geraldo é meio que o Matusalém da comunidade. Quando eu passei a fazer parte ativamente da comunidade nacional o Geraldo já estava lá produzindo e pintando em ritmo frenético. O Geraldo pinta bem, e pinta rápido, mas a meu ver ninguém se iguala ao mestre e mentor supremo de todos nós quando o assunto é a criação de cenários.
Eu já estive algumas outras vezes em Curitiba mas, por um motivo ou outro, nunca dava certo de poder ir visitá-lo. Acho que o Geraldo já devia estar até chateado de me convidar e eu nunca me organizar para ir até lá. Fiquei feliz quando o Elson e o Otto, dois de nossos anfitriões na capital polar, se ofereceram para nos ciceronear em uma visita ao Geraldo.
Ambos até tentaram durante a viagem nos preparar para o que nos aguardava no “bunker ork” do Geraldo mas nada poderia nos preparar para a surpresa. Felizmente o André “Streem” do videocast (ou videolog) “Reload” teve um bom senso de preparar um episódio mostrando nossa visita.
